History:
Seamus was born in South Western Ireland, in the small town of Doneraile in County Cork, to a witch mother and a muggle father. His mother neglected to inform his father that she was a witch until after he had married her. However, after she revealed her identity to him, she also succeeded in moving to the town of Doneraile to raise her son, which although it is a officially a Muggle town, has a large community of wizards and witches. Thanks to this, Seamus was raised as part of the Wizarding community, ‘zooming around the countryside’ on his broom from a young age, already an avid fan of the Kenmare Kestrals.
Seamus’ father was quite unpleasantly shocked to learn his wife was a witch, especially due to his Catholic upbringing, but eventually he was able to except his wife, and later his son’s magic abilities. Although Seamus was always closer to his mother, from his father he learned enough about Muggles to pick up some Muggle habits himself. His comfort with Muggles paved the way for his close friendship with Dean Thomas at Hogwarts.
Seamus’ mother had much motivation for believing the Prophet’s version of events, as she did not want her husband to be aware. Sure enough, as Voldemort’s power grew more and more evident, it confirmed the Seamus’ father’s lingering fears about the Wizarding world, and he fled, leaving his wife and son right before the beginning of Seamus’ seventh year. His relationship with Dean has kept him from coming to regard Muggles as cowards who abandon you in times of need.
